Joys’ previous career was in corporate business with IBM UK where she was fortunate to be involved in numerous functions covering Sales & Marketing, Account Management, Financial Planning, System Integration and Production Scheduling. During that time she founded the IBM Ladies Golf Society, arranging group lessons for interested lady golfers in her region. When they all reached a certain level and had the ability to tackle an 18-hole golf course, she organized society days at many clubs, some of which were very prestigious.
In 1992 she took advantage of a voluntary release scheme with IBM UK to retrain and enrolled in a personnel management course completing the Certificate in Personnel Practice endorsed by the Institute of Personnel Management. Whilst doing so, she joined Blue Arrow Personnel Services, a national recruitment company that gave her the opportunity to apply her employment law and recruitment theory within industry. Here she was responsible for several major national contracts as well as the recruitment of management positions within local corporate companies.
In 1996 she then decided that an independent recruitment company could offer her the opportunity to work with local companies and appreciate their individual needs where the personal approach would be appreciated and joined Prime Appointments who were seeking to expand their team and develop the commercial business. Here she increased the profile of the Commercial Division securing contracts with some reputable local companies, before the opportunity arose to take responsibility for the Golf Division following the acquisition from Select Golf.
From 2002 Joy developed the Golf Division within Prime Appointments, involving herself in the sponsorship of The Golf Club Secretary Open Championship and assisting the Golf Club Managers’ Association with their residential training courses. She built an ever increasing database of supportive candidates who were seeking career moves within the golf industry and a credible list of successful placements. By doing so, she gained the reputation for being the 'Guru' within the industry and that of a professional and personable recruitment consultant. Having then completed 10 ½ years service with Prime Appointments and wanting to establish her own recruitment company, Joy set up JOY EDKINS GOLF RECRUITMENT in April 2007 to achieve her ambition of controlling her own destiny. By having the ownership of her business, able to make her own decisions, she can now apply a more flexible approach to her working hours and appreciate the financial constraints that the golf clubs have.
Joy spent the initial few weeks ensuring that the contacts she had built up within the golf industry were supportive of her new venture and was pleased to be given the encouragement from the Golf Club Managers' Association, the National Golf Clubs' Advisory Association and the English Golf Union.
She continues to provide assistance to the GCMA on their Training Courses where she presents on 'Applying for a Job' and was one of the exhibitors with a stand at the GCMA National Conference that was held at The Belfry in November 2007, appreciating that visibility within the industry is essential.
Previously Joy has been a member at Rushmere Golf Club in Ipswich, The Notleys in Braintree and Gosfield Lakes Golf Club before finding her niche at Chelmsford Golf Club where she has been a proud Lady Member since 2005 and actively supports her Captain. At Chelmsford, her Secretary/Manager Mr Graham Winckless, who was Secretary of the Year in 2005, is also very supportive of Joys' golf recruitment business and with his position on the GCMA National Committee he will continue to recommend and encourage her success.
If you would like to benefit from the experience Joy as gained over the past 17 years in recruitment and realise the cost effectiveness of utilising her service, then please do contact her for a confidential discussion, whether you are a golf club seeking help or an individual wishing to develop your career.
