CGCS 2008 Recommendations 28/05/08 , Wednesday

The Committee for Golf Club Salaries has jissued their recommendations for 2008 and JOY EDKINS GOLF RECRUITMENT is pleased to be the sponsor.

For a copy of this booklet please contact Gill Bridle at the GCMA Email: gillbridle@gcma.org.uk

The CGCS was formed in 1997 to recommend minimum levels of pay for greenkeepers in the UK.

Initially these recommendations were based on heresay evidence and did not take into account regional variances.

In 2006, it was agreed to publish similar recommendations for golf club Secretaries/Managers, as requested by the GCMA (Golf Club Managers' Association).

An annual survey has been carried out by the Association, which clearly shows regional variances of salaries. The Committee decided, based on the facts collected from several years' surveys, to recommend three regionalized scales for salaries. These being London, the South & East of England and the rest of the United Kingdom.

The Committee tries to include as much information as possible in its recommendations each year, however it would not be possible to include all salaries for all clubs in all parts of the UK. Golf Clubs need to interpret the recommendations to suit local needs and link local salaries to job descriptions.

The recommendations are linked to the four core areas of management the Secretary/Manager has overall responsibility for:-
1. Finance
2. Golf Course
3. Food & Beverage (including Bars
4. General Administration

The CGGS is represented by:-
Don Bailey MBE - Chairman
(Representing Golf Clubs)
George Barr - Vice Chairman (BIGGA Member)
Andy Campbell - BIGGA Board Member
Mark Dobell - Finance Director R&A
Keith Lloyd - National Secretary (GCMA)
Mike Shaw - Secretary NHCAA
Chris Silcox - GCMA Member

Chilterns & Home Counties Region Guest Day 28/05/08 , Wednesday

I am delighted to be asked to sponsor the prizes for the Chilterns & Home Counties Region Guest Day that is being hosted by Berkhamsted Golf Club on 16th July 2008.

For those members who are attending with their guests I look forward to meeting you at the 'check-in' desk.

I am hopefully being paired up with some unsuspecting golfer for the afternoon of golf and then joining you all for the dinner in the evening.

Let's hope the weather is kind and that you all do your best to win either 1st, 2nd or 3rd Prize and even Nearest the Pin or the Longest Drive.

For those of you who don't know me personally, I hope you will make a point of introducing yourself to me and those who do, it will be good to see you.

Working in partnership with the GCMA, Bucks New University is offering a new and innovative employment-based qualification, which aims to capitalise on existing experience within the golf sector and to set that expertise in the context of an academincally rigorous learning experience.
It is designed to equip people with the skills and knowledge to work as golf club secretaries and managers and to consolidate the experience of those already working in the sector.
It is an employment-related higher education qualification that combines learning in the workplace with adademic study.
The duration of the course is one year and certificate graduates can progress to a Foundation Degree FDA Sports Management and Golf Studies and then top up to an Honours Degree.
I recently met with Andrew Rankin, Golf Progarmme Coordinator and have gained a thorough understanding and appreciation of the course in order for me to advise candidates in detail.
